Who we are

Andrew Gould

The Dental Channel is a privately owned company established in 1997 by dentist Andrew Gould to realise the benefits offered by information technology (IT) for continuing professional development (CPD).

The early years were spent developing a range of  interactive multimedia CD-ROMs on behalf of the Department of Health, with the first title "Pulp Therapy Techniques for the Deciduous Dentition" released in 1999.  A series of peer-reviewed titles followed, receiving critical acclaim from both the profession as well as the audio-visual and e-learning industries.  The CD-ROMs are  used by thousands of dentists worldwide and may be found in the CD-ROMs section of this web site.

One of the most successful CD-ROMs has been Pulp Afflictions, winner of both the E-Learning Awards and AV Awards in 2005.  In March 2006 The Dental Channel piloted a new live online meeting service to follow up Pulp Afflictions and complement the on-demand (asynchronous) learning provided by the CD-ROM.  These web seminars ( "webinars") bring expert knowledge directly to our clients' homes and workplaces via a simple internet connection.  This transformational technology is now a common resource in meeting and training online and is an intrinsic part of The Dental Channel's services today.  In 2008 our live webinar programme was recognised by the e-learning industry when we received the E-learning Gold Award for "Best use of synchronous e-learning".

In more recent years the use of on-demand webinars - available to view online at any time from any computer - and journal CPD - produced in association with the Dental Practice and Dental Technician journals - have helped to broaden the range of resources available and have helped to further provide cost-effective solutions for dental professional's continuing professional development.  In 2009 our approach to delivering meaningful verifiable CPD won the Bronze Award for "Meeting the needs of  compliance for an external regulator or internal workforce".

The role of e-learning as part of professional development is evolving as new technologies emerge and the demands of the profession grow.  Whatever the future holds we shall continue to innovate and look forward to continuing to serve the profession.
