To describe the required equipment, drugs and practical training required to deal with the following types of events:
- Faints
- Acute hypoglycaemia
- Acute asthma attacks
- Acute angina and myocardial infarction
- Adrenocortical insufficiency (Addisonian crisis)
- Acute allergy and anaphylaxis
- Epileptic fits

To have updated your knowledge on Medical Emergencies in relation to the legal and ethical changes in recent years, the management of faints, acute asthma and acute hypoglycaemia
About the Presenter
Dr Dickinson teaches sedation, basic life support (BLS) and medical emergencies in dentistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Guy’s (for BDS & MFDS) and to other postgraduate groups, such as community dental services and general practitioners.
He is involved in BLS and medical emergency teaching for the distance learning MClinDent in prosthodontics at King’s College London and runs three all day practical medical emergency courses per year for the London Deanery. He is an examiner for the NEBDN dental sedation nursing post-certification exam and sits on the DSN committee. Dr Dickinson’s interests lie in all areas of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry with special interests in oral health care for patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa, cardiac conditions and gagging problems.
