Learning aim This session will provide a guide to identifying patients with medical issues and how they should be managed
Learning Objectives
- Identifying "at risk" patients - knowing who to avoid
- Cardiac disease
- Respiratory disease
- Infectious diseases
Learning Outcome
By the end of the session participants will be familiar with the most important medical issues relating to elderly patients and how they relate to management
Requirements
- Windows PC/Apple Macintosh* and broadband connection (a wired connection rather than wireless connection is recommended)
- Basic computer skills
Whilst not necessary the following are recommended to make the most of the session
- Webcam (*not supported on the Mac)
- A microphone or headset
- Glass of wine (or preferred alternative) and nibbles!
What do I do once enrolled?
- Select learning paths and follow the instructions to register with our conferencing system. This will allocate your place and unique ID number (for CPD).
- Once registered you will be sent confirmation and login details by return.
- On the day login in good time (we recommend 30 minutes before the scheduled time to make sure you are ready to start). Don't forget your glass of wine or preferred alternative!
- After the event complete the evaluation form and the certificate will be made available to download.
Test session
A test session will be held on Monday 18th February, 6-7pm. This is an excellent opportunity to test a new webcam or headset if you wish to use them (recommended but not mandatory).

Dr Dickinson teaches sedation, basic life support (BLS) and medical emergencies in dentistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Guy’s (for BDS & MFDS) and to other postgraduate groups, such as community dental services and general practitioners. He is involved in BLS and medical emergency teaching for the distance learning MClinDent in prosthodontics at King’s College London and runs three all day practical medical emergency courses per year for the London Deanery. He is an examiner for the NEBDN dental sedation nursing post-certification exam and sits on the DSN committee.
Dr Dickinson’s interests lie in all areas of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry with special interests in oral health care for patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa, cardiac conditions and gagging problems |
