About the presenters

MarieParker

Marie Parker is Head of CPD for Dental Nurses within the Dental Nurse Education & Training Centre at Guy’s, King’s & St. Thomas’ Hospitals. She is passionate about the Lifelong Learning of Dental Nurses constantly looking at innovative ways of producing & delivering affordable training for dental nurses.

Marie qualified as a dental nurse in 1994 and has worked in NHS / Private practices and dental hospitals. She gained the certificate in Oral Health Education (OHE) in 1998 and Further Adults Education & Teaching Certificate in 2000, enabling her to work as a Dental Nurse Tutor.

She is currently a member of the panel of examiners for the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) examining for the National & Oral Health Education Certificates, moderator for the NVQ Oral Health Care Dental Nursing, Independent Assessment and a member of the NEBDN OHE committee.

Jillian Eastmond is CPD Training Manager for the Dental Nurse Education & Training Centre at Guys, King’s & St Thomas' Hospitals. She qualified as a dental nurse at Manchester Dental Hospital in 1994 and has worked in both private & NHS practices as well as dental hospitals. She worked as a specialist dental nurse in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at Guy's Dental Hospital and was a head & neck cancer care coordinator for the Trust.

Jillian has a Further and Adult Education Teaching Certificate, a certificate in Dental Radiography as well as being an assessor for the NVQ III Oral Health Care Dental Nursing qualification. She has recently achieved a management qualification, and is a National and Oral Health Education examiner for the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses.

She is committed to improving quality and standards for dental nurses and is keen to develop a range of learning opportunities including distance learning packages. She is an experienced teacher and delivers lectures from National Certificate training to dental undergraduates and MScs.

This introductory session will

  • allow nurses to learn about registration and compulsory CPD
  • provide the opportunity to join in a questions and answer session
  • see how live and on-demand webinars may feature as part of a personal learning & development plan

Learning Outcomes

Following the session you will be able to:

  • State the purpose of registration
  • Describe what the responsibilities are of becoming a registered professional List the CPD requirements
  • Be aware of the various routes to gain verifiable & non verifiable CPD
  • assess the value of live webinars as part of a professional development plan.

Quickstart guide

Each practice must appoint a co-ordinator (e.g. practice administrator) to ensure that all relevant staff are informed about the event and have registered an account on this site.

The coordinator should:

  • Confirm by email all staff attending the event
  • Request the registration ID and password. This will be confirmed by email.
    (click Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links on the course details menu - only visible once enrolled in the course)
  • Join the session using the link in the confirmation email 15 minutes prior to the start time
Participants:
  • After the event complete the evaluation within 48 hours (Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links)
  • Download your certificate; this will be available approximately 72 hours after the event(Gradebook(seecoursedetailsmenu) Gradebook)
  • Use the discussion forum to continue exploring topics of interest.
  • Participants joining from another computer (e.g. from home) must request a registration ID and password as described above.
Requirements:
  • You will need a reliable broadband connection and computer. See What do I need? for further information.
  • Ensure that you have a suitably sized screen for all participants to view comfortably
  • A microphone and webcam are not necessary but highly recommended.

Instructions

Before the event:

  1. If you are the coordinator or will be joining from another computer select Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links (on the course details menu above)
    NB You must be logged in and enrolled to see the course details menu icons
  2. Select Joining Information and follow the instructions
  3. A confirmation email will be sent confirming your place together with the password, your unique registration ID (for CPD) and link to the session. The event details can be added to your calendar (e.g. Outlook).
  4. If you would like to submit questions for the presenter in advance these should be forwarded by email to us.
  5. Join the test session if this is your first event or you wish to test a new computer configuration.
On the day:
  1. Login 15-20 minutes before the scheduled start time using the link in the confirmation email
  2. Relax and enjoy the session.
  3. If you misplace your confirmation email select Joining Information from Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links and re-enter your name and email address; the details will be re-sent.

Evaluation & CPD certification:

  1. After the event complete the short evaluation (accessed via Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links or Learningpaths(seecoursedetailsmenu) Learning Paths) within 48 hours.
  2. Download your CPD certificate from Gradebook(seecoursedetailsmenu) Gradebook.

What do I need?

  • Reliable broadband connection and computer (a wired rather than wireless connection recommended)
  • Windows XP (recommended), Windows Vista, MacOS and Linux supported. NB Webcam video is only supported in Windows XP or Vista.
  • A headset or webcam are not necessary but will help make the most of the experience.

Test session

A test session will be held prior to the event. This is highly recommended if you have not attended a live webinar recently or if you have recently changed your computer's configuration. Details are given in your confirmation email.
