- Have been introduced to and will be able to describe principles of dental ethics, law and professionalism
- Have applied these principles to dental practice by case presentation and discussion
- Have considered ethical and legal issues in their own practice and experience
- Have been made aware of prevailing General Dental Council guidance on good clinical practice
- Have taken part in a dental law clinic aiming to deal with common concerns
About the Presenter
Mark Brennan is a clinical educator and clinical ethicist. Mark qualified in medical ethics and law at King's College London (MA, 1991). He was the first lecturer in medical education to be appointed at Bristol University School of Medicine where he also taught medical ethics. He is an honorary associate dean in the postgraduate deanery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex (University of London), external examiner in ethics and law at King's College London and Birmingham University School of Dentistry, an honorary senior lecturer at Cardiff University and in the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust, and the education adviser to The Medical Defence Union. In 2006 he was appointed as a director and elected as a member of the governing body of the Institute of Medical Ethics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health and of the Higher Education Academy. His publications include The Practical Guide to Medical Ethics and Law (Pastest, 2nd edition, 2005) and Ethics and Law for the Dental Team (Pastest, 2006).
