Instructions

You will be registered on the webinar automatically and will receive a confirmation email with your user ID, password and joining instructions.

To join the webinar, follow the instructions provided in the confirmation email

At the bottom of your email is a link that adds the webinar event to your calendar program (e.g. Microsoft Outlook). This will then automatically prompt you to join the session on the day (a reminder will also be sent via email 24 hours prior to the event)

To join the webinar you will need:

  • Windows PC/Apple Macintosh* and broadband connection (a wired connection rather than wireless connection is recommended)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Loudspeakers or a headset (recommended) to listen

The following are recommended to make the most of the session but not neccesary

  • Webcam (*not supported on the Mac)
  • A microphone or headset
  • Glass of wine (or preferred alternative) and nibbles!

  • Click the link in your confirmation email
    *You will be sent a reminder email 24 hours before the event.
  • The session web page will open and your details will be entered automatically
  • Click "Join now"
  • Follow the prompts and run the audio setup wizard to check your sound settings (you must accept the invitation to join the "VoIP session" to hear the audio)
  • You will then join the conference "room" and be greeted by the host

If you added the webinar to your calendar program (e.g. Microsoft Outlook) then you can also click the link in your calendar to join the webinar

  • We will run test sessions before the event. We recommend that you attend a session to make sure that your computer is configured correctly and to give you a quick guide to the webinar process. This should take no longer than 15 minutes
  • We also open the webinar session an hour early on the day of the event so that you can login early. A freephone number is available for any technical difficulties once the event has started

Test sessions will be run on:

  • Monday 15th September 6:00-7:00 pm
  • Tuesday 16th September 6:00-7:00 pm
  • Saturday 18th September 6:00-7:00 pm

If you are unable to attend any of the test sessions please call 0800 358 1236 (open 24 hrs) and have your joining instructions to hand and you will be taken through the setup process

  • Please login at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the webinar following the confirmation email instructions
  • If this is your first time we highly recommend joining the test session (see above) to make sure that your computer is configured correctly
  • If you require technical assistance call 0800 358 1236 and have your joining instructions to hand

A recording of the live event will be available to review for xx days after the event. Click Links(seecoursedetailsmenu) Links then Recording to view.

  • Once the webinar is finished you must complete the course evaluation (Links Links).
  • Your CPD certificate will be made available to you in tlb_gradebook.png Gradebook once the evaluation is completed and 72 hours after the event.

Learning aim

This session will provide dental tutors with the opportunity to understand the role that live web-based seminars ("webinars") can play in postgraduate education and training by participating in a presentation on ‘Under Performance – Strategies for Effective Management.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain what constitutes a  live "webinar"
  • Describe the important similarities and differences between a traditional and online lecture
  • Illustrate how this may be applied in post-graduate education by participating in a live event on Under Performance – Strategies for Effective Management.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the session you will:

  • understand how live webinars may be used in postgraduate education and training
  • updated your knowledge regarding managing performance.

Presenters

About the Presenters

Raj RattanDr Raj Rattan

Raj Rattan is a general dental practitioner with practices in London and Oxford. He has a long-standing commitment to dental vocational training and is a lead advisor in vocational training in the London Deanery. Raj is a dento-legal advisor with Dental Protection Ltd and a Primary Care Trust dental advisor. He was also a regional advisor for BUPA DentalCover. He has lectured extensively on a wide range of subjects related to general practice both in the UK and overseas.

He is the author of over 250 articles and has published books on practice management and vocational training in general dental practice. He has written the book Clinical Governance in General Dental Practice. Raj is an editorial board member of The Dentist magazine and is the general practice editor and co-author of a number of books currently in preparation with Quintessence Publishing. He joins the smile-on team as founder of first-practice.com with managerial responsibility for its continuing development.

Andrew GouldDr Andrew Gould

Andrew setup the Dental Channel in 1998 to develop e-learning programmes for Dental Professionals. The company has developed a series of CD-ROMs developed in conjunction with the Department of Health which have received much critical acclaim from the dental, audio-visual and e-learning industries, including winning both e-learning and AV Awards in 2005 for "Pulp Afflictions".

The company has most recently involved in pioneering live web training via the internet, coupled with edited and interactive on-demand resources.

Andrew is also a part-time clinical teacher within the department of paediatric dentistry at King's College London Dental Institute.

A webinar is an online seminar that you watch via your PC from the comfort of your home or office. You watch the presentation, listen to the speaker, and interact with other viewers. Unlike conventional seminars, our webinars provide an informal atmosphere and the added benefit of private chat, comments and questions.
