Learning Aim
This session will set out to educate participants on acupuncture as another technique with which disease can be either cured or alleviated - put in other words, as an extra tool in a dentist's toolbox.
Learning Objectives
To explore:
- Background of acupuncture
- The principles of how acupuncture works, both Chinese and Scientific hypothesis
- Diagnosis of head and neck myofascial pain
- The application of acupuncture in relation to dentistry and conditions treated
- Side effects and complications of acupuncture
- And how to start using acupuncture in your practice
Learning Outcome
By the end of this session participants will be aware of the use of acupuncture in dentistry, particularly its background and origins, its principles, application and complications of its use and also how to start using the technique in your practice.
About the Presenter
David Johnson is a Wolfson Foundation Scholar graduating from Cardiff Dental School in 2001, with a research background. He is currently working in the CDS mainly treating children and special needs patients. He previously held an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position in Oral Medicine at Cardiff Dental School.
He is fully registered with the British Dental Acupuncture Societies, and has been using acupuncture as an adjunct to dental treatment since 2003. He is actively involved in practice based research and audit within the areas of paediatric dentistry and dental acupuncture.

A webinar is an online seminar that you watch via your PC from the comfort of your home or office. You watch the presentation, listen to the speaker, and interact with other viewers. Unlike conventional seminars, our webinars provide an informal atmosphere and the added benefit of private chat, comments and questions.

A freephone number is available for any technical difficulties once the event has started.
Yes, you can submit questions to the presenter anytime before or during the webinar by email or by using the chat window. Questions will be addressed during the question and answer session.
