Aim
The aim of this talk is to provide a comprehensive insight into radiation dose and the factors affecting doses in dentistry. This talk will also cover the risks of ionising radiation and the principles of radiation protection with emphasis on quality assurance and the statutory requirements. Radiography selection criteria guidelines are covered.
This presentation will provide participants with an overview of two dimensional (2D) imaging including digital radiography and introduces the three dimensional (3D) Cone Beam CT scanning.
Objectives
- How are 2D films / digital images and 3D digital images created;
- The equipment involved and the radiation doses delivered;
- Practical aspects of dose reduction and dental radiography;
- Quality assurance programme implementation;
- Consider the new bodies that can act as proxy-decision makers;
- Current guidance in relation to the clinical use of dental radiography equipment.
