Aim
The seminar will discuss the problem of providing preventive care for children in general dental practice. Discussion will centre round the diagnosis of early disease and the most effective and practical preventive measures available.
The seminar will include PowerPoint presentations, video and audio recordings with the aim of encouraging participation by all those taking part in the seminar. A small amount of reading material will be provided prior to the seminar - again with the hope that this will encourage participation.
Outcomes
By the end of the session participants should be able to:
- Recognise the difference between active and inactive carious lesions
- Understand the importance of diagnosing active lesions at an early stage
and:
- Be aware of the new diagnostic systems for dental caries that have been proposed in recent years
- Understand the need for a better way of charting dental caries and know one method of doing so - including caries seen on radiographs
- Be aware of the importance of radiographs in managing dental caries in children
- Be aware of the best strategy for managing dental caries in general dental practice,
and they will have:
- Discussed the financial viability of this strategy in the practice setting.

Instructions
- Your joining instructions will be sent by email approximately 5 days in advance and a reminder 24 hours before the session's scheduled start time
- We open the session an hour before the scheduled start so you can log in early and be ready to start promptly

- NB If this is your first live webinar we strongly recommend attending a test session, details of which will be in your joining instructions
A reminder will also be sent via email 24 hours prior to the event. If you have registered using a work email but will be joining from home make sure that you can either access this email from home or forward it to your personal email address.
To join the webinar you will need:
- Windows PC/Apple Macintosh* and broadband connection (a wired connection rather than wireless connection is recommended)
- Basic computer skills
- Loudspeakers or a headset (recommended). If listening by telephone you may wish to use a telephone with a hands-free facility or headset.
The following are recommended to make the most of the session but not neccesary
- Webcam
- A microphone or headset
- Glass of wine (or preferred alternative) and nibbles!
- We run a test session normally 48 hours before the event to make sure that your computer is configured correctly and to give you a quick guide to the webinar process. This should take no longer than 15 minutes. Please check your joining instructions email for any additional information.
- The webinar session is opened an hour early on the day of the event so that you can login in good time. A freephone number is available for assistance should this be required.
A recording will be available to review after the event. The period available will depend upon your subscription.
- Once the webinar is finished you must complete the course evaluation (
Links) within 48 hours.
- Your CPD certificate will be made available to you in
Gradebook once the evaluation has been completed.You will be notifced by email when it is ready to download.
