Learning summary
Aim
The session will cover the key points for successful construction of full dentures, in a fast-paced but fun 60 or so minutes.
Objectives
Subjects addressed will include:
- Examination;
- Identification of important anatomical features;
- Impressions;
- Jaw relationships and facebow records;
- Choice of teeth, setting up and fitting;
- Copy denture technique;
- and reasons for failure.
Outcomes
By the end of the session participants will have updated and reinforced their knowledge regarding the key components of providing successful full dentures and managing difficulties.

Use the link in the email to join the session; we open the meeting approximately one hour before the scheduled start time so login in good time
NB If this is your first live webinar we strongly recommend attending a test session, details of which will be in your joining instructions
A reminder will also be sent via email 24 hours prior to the event. If you have registered using a work email but will be joining from home make sure that you can either access this email from home or forward it to your personal email address.
To join the webinar you will need:
- Windows PC/Apple Macintosh* and broadband connection (a wired connection rather than wireless connection is recommended)
- Basic computer skills
- Loudspeakers or a headset (recommended). If listening by telephone you may wish to use a telephone with a hands-free facility or headset.
The following are recommended to make the most of the session but not neccesary
- Webcam
- A microphone or headset
- Glass of wine (or preferred alternative) and nibbles!
- We run a test session normally 48 hours before the event to make sure that your computer is configured correctly and to give you a quick guide to the webinar process. This should take no longer than 15 minutes. Please check your joining instructions email for any additional information.
- The webinar session is opened an hour early on the day of the event so that you can login in good time. A freephone number is available for assistance should this be required.
A recording is normally published approximately two weeks following the event. Please look out for an announcement when it is available.
- Once the webinar is finished you must complete the course evaluation (
Links) within 48 hours.
- Your CPD certificate will be made available to you in
Gradebook once the evaluation is completed and 72 hours after the event.

Verifiable CPD
On completion of the course and a short evaluation you will be given a certificate for 2 hours verifiable CPD.
About the Presenter
James qualified from Guys in 1981 and spent 6 months as House Surgeon before going into private practice.
In 1986 he set up his own practice and being of enquiring mind worked his way through the portfolio of postgraduate study offered by the Royal College of Surgeons and the Faculty of General Dental Practice gaining the ultimate, the Fellowship in 2004. He has a major interest in education and lectures widely, from VT right through to Fellowship Mentoring and is currently part of the Mentoring Development Group. He has been a Board member and also a Course Tutor for the IQE examination. James runs several hands-on courses with his well-known humorous style. He gained the Certificate in Practice Appraisal in 2005 and so is well aware of the real issues faced by General Practitioners.
Having been a keen Meccano builder as a child, James performs all his own prosthodontic laboratory work and is happiest hand-tinting acrylic for natural looking dentures or setting up teeth at the chairside with input from the patient.
