Developing your career
'If you fail to plan you plan to fail'. How true, but most dental professionals do not plan their CPD. The introduction of the enhanced CPD scheme means that holding a PDP is no longer a recommendation but a requirement. We provide some tools to ensure that you not only keep the GDC happy, but also make the most of the time you devote to your professional development.
The enhanced CPD scheme makes holding a personal development plan and submitting an annual record of CPD activities mandatory. Creating a carefully crafted personal development plan need not take long, will help you optimise the time you devote to professional development, and develop your career. We have created an Excel spreadsheet to help you do precisely this. You do not have to have a desktop version of Excel because there are free mobile and online apps, and if you store it securely in 'the cloud' you can have ready access 24/7/365.
To view and download the document, sign in and then return to this page. The link will then be displayed. If you do not have an account, please register with us. It will only take few minutes.
We have developed apps for two professional organisations: the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, and the Dental Technologists’ Association. These enable the user to formulate a realistic personal development plan (PDP), identify relevant CPD activities and then record and reflect on them. You then identify new CPD activities and so on; a 'virtuous spiral'.
The good news is that you do not have to be a member of the BSDHT to use its app. Simply download, install and enjoy it!
Wherever you are, you can now plan, do, reflect and record your CPD. This will assist your assessment of its impact on patient care and help you develop your career.
