Endodontics in a COVID-19 world

The management of patients presenting with acute endodontic disease has been dramatically changed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation will consider the challenges and how they can be addressed.

Topics covered will include:

• dentine-pulp complex and development of pulpal inflammation in endodontic disease;
• associated endodontic presentations as the inflammatory process progresses;
• evidenced-based analgesic and antibiotic management of endodontic disease during the pandemic;
• a proposed protocol for emergency endodontic treatment and management of aerosol; and
• post-covid management of deep caries and pulpitis using vital pulp therapy as a potential means of avoiding root canal treatment.

On completion participants should understand:

• the protocol for treating acute endodontic disease;
• associated risk management procedures; and
• post-pandemic endodontic management of deep caries by preserving pulp vitality using pulp therapy.
