Webinars with a difference
Make our monthly live meetings a focus of your CPD activities.
Meet with other like-minded professionals, enjoy a presentation delivered by an expert (or experts; we have had panels from literally across the globe) and have the opportunity to learn from each other. All from the convenience of your internet connection.
Prior to the pandemic webinars had been steadily growing in popularity, but now their value as a medium not only for CPD but also to support each other should be clear to all.
Our upcoming (and recent previous) events are listed in the calendar. They normally take place at 8pm on the first Wednesday of the month. Subscribers are automatically enrolled.
If you would like to know more, please read on. Otherwise browse the calendar and we very much look forward to welcoming you in person at our next meeting!

What happens?
Our virtual meetings are normally scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month (except August when we have a break) at 8pm. We encourage participants to join at least 10 minutes early to avoid a last-minute rush and have time to say hello.
During the webinar you will be able to view the presentation, see the presenter(s) and comment via a text chat facility. Messages can be either public or private.
Webinars are similar to but not the same as face-to-face meetings, which is why we put a great deal of attention into planning interactive events that will engage, inform and help improve your practice. The format may be similar to the traditional lecture, with a presentation followed by discussion. Sometimes it is divided into discrete parts, with input invited from participants via text chat, polls or similar.
If you have a microphone or webcam you are welcome (and encouraged) to use them during the discussions, but they are not obligatory.
Recordings with a difference
Recordings of meetings are used to create interactive on-demand versions of the presentations. We aim to publish these approximately 4-6 weeks after the live broadcast.
The dynamics of live and on-demand events are different, so the editing reflects this. Interactive components are added to replicate those used in the live events and additional ones to help make the most of the experience.
The on-demand versions are based on the presentation. Participants are not identified in order to respect privacy.
The best way to use our service is to attend the live webinars and then use the on-demand version to review and follow-up the training.
Recognition
We piloted the use of webinars in early 2006 to deliver live training online as a complement to our highly successful self-paced CD-ROM titles produced on behalf of the Department of Health. The response was overwhelmingly positive so we commenced delivering monthly events from April that year.
We have been fortunate to receive multiple awards from the e-learning industry for our various e-learning activities. We were delighted to be awarded the e-learning Award 2008 for the "Best use of synchronous learning". 'Synchronous learning' is the technical term for webinars.
Join in!
Members holding a current Premium or Complete 1/12 subscription are automatically enrolled, with the meeting listed in the Learning Hub.
We are confident that you will find our live webinars engaging events that will help keep you up to date and improve your professional practice. We look forward to welcoming you to our next meeting.
